Get Inside the Mind of Girl Gamers (it's not as scary as you think)
Business Insider post a fascinating slide show looking at female gamers' motivations and playing habits. It starts with some key data on women gamers vs. men, and then breaks women gamers down into 5 groups:
- Competitors: 34% of female game playing sessions are from competitive minded women.
- Immersives: 27% of female game playing sessions want to escape into a game.
- Minders: 19% of female playing sessions are women who want thought provoking games.
- Bonders: 10% play looking for a social experience.
- Dabblers: 10% just want to mess about with a game without much thought.
The top two are interesting when you consider the popularity of leaderboards and escapist themes in the top Facebook games. (Not sure many of the top games cater to the 19% who want something thought provoking, though.)
